About Our Logo
Driving the length of the highway that connects Washington D.C. with Dulles airport, one sees the names of major Internet, computer, and other technology businesses on most of the buildings along the way. Many of these bear a circular or elliptical logo, often in the form of a comet or electron, appearing to orbit the company name.
We wanted something distinctive and positive that would match our name and function. So, we started with a gray circle, to suggest a sphere containing a bit of mystery. Inside that, we placed the silhouette of a disk, possibly a CD-ROM or the platter from a hard drive, to emphasize the importance of computer-based data inside the mysterious sphere. We didn't plan to have an ellipse of our own, but we're happy that the blue disk seen obliquely in our logo fits in so well with the other high-tech firms based here in northern Virginia.
Overlaying the disk and the sphere is a bright star, or nova. We think the nova suggests that something illuminating is on the disk behind it. And, in northern Virginia, the abbreviation "NoVa" is commonly used to refer to our region. So, our logo matches the short form of our name, which is also our domain name: novadatalabs.
It's only a picture, of course, but we're proud of it and feel it stands for what we do by bringing evidence to light. Please let us know what you think of it.
